My 20 Basic Kitchen Essentials:
When most people were shopping at Target last minute to stock their dorm room I was excitedly packing my boxes full of the kitchen essentials I had collected for several months. (I worked three jobs so I could have Pottery Barn dishes and decent knives) Fast forward ten or so years and I still have many of those essentials in my New York kitchen although I do admit I have upgraded here and there (or as Matt would say here there and everywhere)
I always remember cooking with Nana and she would say "oh that bowl was a wedding gift". That fact has made me really choose my kitchen tools very carefully because it means if you buy good quality and take excellent care of it you will use it all your life.
Here are the basics:
Instant read thermometer
Heavy Bottomed Pot
Half Sheet Pan
With these essential items you can make a multitude of recipes without feeling like you are ill equipped.
What do you think? Did I miss one of your personal kitchen essentials? Would you want to see a post about advanced kitchen tools?
